Trees with Skirts

In the above example, the trees have been severely cropped and have grown leaves out from the base of their trunks in order to take in enough carbon dioxide to sustain themselves.

Here trees have been planted with their base surrounded by box hedge (Buxus sempervirens) trimmed into an undulating shape.

In this third example, the tree has been so severely cropped it has died or is dormant.
